Down at the Farm

So when I started working at UW, I never thought I would be doing so much at farms, but today, my coworker and I ventured out to Mona to visit the Lavender Farm (who knew such places existed?) of a big company that is sponsoring a fundraiser on my behalf. I had seen some pictures of the place, and it looked pretty cool, so I was anxiously awaiting today's appointment.

Much to my dismay, I woke up to a very gloomy, blustery day. When lunchtime came (right before we left) it was unfortunately still quite rainy. I debated changing from my skirt, ballet flats and nice top into a pair of sturdy shoes and jeans, but not knowing how appropriate that would be, I changed into my "Sturdiest" most rain/mud proof dress shoes, grabbed my umbrella, jacket and headed out.

The farther south we got, the more it rained. As we approached Mona (the little bit there is of it), it started raining horizontally. My coworker and I laughed as we pulled into the pond that was the parking lot. The tour we were supposed to take no longer seemed like the best idea.

When we stepped out of the car, our umbrellas did their best to stay strong, but they didn't little to shield us from the monsoon like rain. We ended up taking a very short version of the tour from the safety of a farm vehicle (We were informed if we got stuck in the mud, we were own our own).

Despite the rain, I think the event is going to be great. The land is super pretty, the lavender smells great and to top it off, there is randomly a medieval village (this is the boys from the old ward's dream come true!) in the middle of the farm. They are apparently bringing in professional jousters and building a special stadium for it and everything! A little ways away from the medieval village is a western town with wagon rides and shootouts.
